Questions: Audience, Purpose and Tone

1. Who is the author’s audience? (What kind of people is the author writing to?) What are some words or phrases in the text that give you a hint about the author’s audience?

2. What is the author’s purpose? (Why is the author writing to their audience, in other words, what is the main point?)

3. What is the author’s tone? (Formal? Informal? Joking? Serious? etc.) What words or phrases in the text shape your idea of the author’s tone?

4. Do you think the author of your blog post did a good job of explaining the process? Why or why not? Do you think you can complete the process successfully after reading the post?
