Reporting Period: From (MM/DD/YY) 08/ 5 / 2018 to (MM/DD/YY) 08/16/2018

Briefly describe the tasks and activities performed over the reporting period.

Date (MM/DD format) Location Activity / Problem Comments / solutions

From 08/05 To 08/06 Central Workshop /

WPS Motors

Troubleshooting

Visited the motor testing area. Run the motor under two conditions (primary checking & no load checking) to check its running condition. As well as tested motor’s windings, bearings, and fans.

From 08/07 To 08/08

Instrumentation Maintenance

Department (IMD) / WPS

Introduction on the type of sensors in the turbine and their

functions

An example for one of the sensors: Vibration sensor. On the bearings. We know the vibration during the running of the turbine. We get an alarm for over-vibration and trips the turbine. In case of bearing faults.

From 08/09 To 08/09 Control Room / WPS

Gas turbine’s protection, an

When a fire is detected, electrical signals are converted and sent to the HMI.

introduction to CO2 fire fighting system

CO2 cylinders contain a limit switch, solenoid valve (magnet valve) to release the CO2 once the fire is detected.

From 08/12 To 08/13

Control Room for Rolls- Royce (RR) gas turbines + Main training room /

WPS

Introduction to the RR

gas turbines + renewable

and nonrenewable power generation

resources.

Site visit for the RR turbine and had a idea about its special software and processor unlike other turbines in the power station (Mark5 processor). RR turbines use the FT55 processor. Renewable resources (Solar, Geothermal, Hydro, and Wind). Nonrenewable resources (Gas, Diesel, and Nuclear).

From 08/14 To 08/16

Wasit transmission

substation + Main control room /

WPS

Introduction to the different types of S/S

breakers and their protection,

transformers’ parts & observe the operation for the generation

process

Breakers types (Air, Oil or SF6 breakers. Breakers protection (earth switch fault, over voltage fault, and discrepancy of poles fault). Transformers protection (Overcurrent fault, differential fault, and high temperature fault). The generation capacity depends on the required load of the network (wether to increase or decrease the generation).
