The specific genre of writing that is common or well-known to most people is the bills. Most people are familiar with the primary idea of bill payment and help in saving time. Payment can be made through logging into the bank or bill payment system website and instructs where payment should be made and then send the payment. In case, you pay for the tuition bills, you may use a check, and when paying technology utility bills then there are chances of making payment electronically. One significant difference between using payment services and writing checks is the source of payment (Sexton, 2015). Intrinsically, a check must have account information, and the money cannot be taken out of the account until the processing of check is completed. On the other hand, bill payment services involving sending a check on behalf of a person, so it is a scenario that payment does not come directly from your account. But money can only be taken out of your account provided there is the issuance of payment (Nichols, 2017). The main advantage is that the majority of banks offer bill payment for free. This is because it is less expensive for them to process payments made by bill payment than a payment made by handwritten checks.

The distinct examples of bills that are gathered include electric bills, tuition bill, technology utility bills, rent bills, and insurance bills. Bill payment systems operate on the same feature sets, but others are different. Most features are meant to make production more efficient.

The following are common features of the bills given above. First, they are recurring payments. For instance, a life insurance policy that needs to be paid each year for the next 25 years. It is a perfect case for recurring payments since the same amount is paid every year (Sexton, 2015). Mortgage and a few other bills are paid similarly. The feature operates effectively on renting and insurance bills which occur on the monthly or yearly basis. On the other hand, electric bills, tuition, and technology utility bills are completely different since they are paid on the need basis.

Second, they are scheduled payments. Bills paid once a month are scheduled to be paid at fixed dates in every month. In fact, bill payment systems that are supporting scheduled payments can allow an individual to specify future dates for one-time payments to be paid. In case, a bill comes in and is not due for some days like 26 days, and an individual can schedule the payment to go out on a particular day like day 23 to allow enough time to get there (Elsharkawy & Rutherford, 2015). However, electric bills, tuition, and technology utilities bills may not have scheduled payments since their usage is never uniform and varying from one month to the other. Renting and insurance bills are seen to be constant so can comply with scheduled payment approaches.

Third, they also allow electronic billing. It is not common as such, but some banks allow their customers to retrieve their bills electronically. In reality, when someone tries to go in to make payments, it shows how much that person owes for each organization. Also, it possible to automate such that the company gets paid the right amount every month (Elsharkawy & Rutherford, 2015). Intuitively it is not a standard feature, and where it is applied, it does not offer any form of integration with a significant number of organizations that involve submitting bills. Objectively, this feature has the capability of working on all the bills mentioned.

Essential to bills give a representation of a severe obligation that must be handled. It implies that if bills are not paid, then it could lead to severe or even life-threatening consequences. Bills aid in the determination of debts that are important and which should be prioritized depending on the seriousness of the consequences that an individual would suffer for non-payment. Priority should be given to family necessities such as basic food and certain medical expenses. Although these expenses need to be at the top of the priority list, they need to be kept to the absolute, bare minimum (Elsharkawy & Rutherford, 2015). As such, bills are essential in the daily expensive since they offer some control mechanisms.

Adaptation of this genre can be used by different communities to meet their purposes in a variety of ways. Communities can make informed choices. For instance, people can make a shift in their purchasing practices by choosing sustainable goods and services (Sexton, 2015). In other words, people will take time in gathering information for making an informed purchase. It will assist in avoiding wastages since bills are essential factors in budgeting and decision-making process. Another way is the minimization of waste. People will be adjusted to buy only products that they need most. In fact, excessive packaging that can lead to high cost are avoided (Kwan, 2014). Sustainability will be attained by applying these keywords; reduce, reuse, and recycle that aid in environmental conservation as well as saving the bills.

The genre will evolve depending on the economic growth as well as inflation. For instance, developed countries experience high renting, insurance, and tuition bills because of having high living standards associated with economic growth. But with other nations are gearing towards becoming a developed world which would lead to the general increase in the bills all over the world (Nichols, 2017). Besides, some countries have optional bills such as medical insurance, but with time they will become mandatory because of fear being left behind. Therefore, there is a high expectation of the evolution of the genre regardless of the duration.

These few examples teach us how the genre helps in enhancing the idea of sustainability. It is an idea that many people like since it brings consciousness about the environment among the population. Besides, examples bring the concept of prioritizing the most essential products or services regarding the cost (Bradley, 2009). They make people strive to have the knowledge or technical abilities to assists in facing difficulties while adapting to the changes in the genre.

On the Nature of the Coupon

What are coupons? They enable us to save money during transactions, but is that all they are? The coupon can be defined as a voucher that entitles its owner to a discount on a particular product or service or added benefit with purchase. This discount can be a percentage off of the original price or a fixed cost reduction. The added benefits can be extra products with a purchase or a free product entirely. The typical artifact that comes to mind when the average person thinks about a coupon would be the coupon page found a typical magazine or newspaper. However, there are several other artifacts that may not necessarily be thought of, but still qualify under this genre definition. Artifacts that qualify as coupons, such as newspaper and magazine clippings, coupons found online, coupons sent directly via email or text, coupons found on products, discount codes and word of mouth, and the homemade coupon book gift, will be compared in terms of how they fit the basic genre definition and how they are different from each other.

The first artifact that fits the basic definition of the coupon is the coupons page from a magazine or a newspaper. This is what most people think of when they think of coupons. That is, a physical voucher that is redeemed by the retailer during a transaction for a discount on the cost of a product. Often, large packets of coupons are put out by the retailer in order to push products that are not being sold enough or are about to expire. Here, the retailer uses coupons to draw customers in to buy specific products.

Aside from the coupons page from a magazine or newspaper, another commonly recognized coupon is the type that is found online. Here, the coupon is found online and printed out for exchange during purchase. Also, the online coupon can be redeemed online using a code during online transactions. Just like the coupon pages found within magazines and newspapers, online coupons put out by retailers are meant to push certain products. Online coupons are also put out by third party websites as well. Sometimes these are put online with coordination from the associated retailer. Third party websites can also gather coupons from multiple different sources and put them in one convenient place so that consumers are drawn to the site and advertisements post there are viewed.

Another commonly seen artifact of the coupon genre is the coupon printed on the product itself. For example, when a product is purchased, it may have a coupon printed somewhere on the packaging for a discount on future purchases of that product. This can get the consumer “locked in” to a specific brand or store through the incentive of saving money. Another common example of this the discount to Six Flags amusement parks with the presentation of a can of Coke. Here, Coke uses the coupon printed on its product to promote the business of an associated company. In exchange, Six Flags likely sells Coke products.

Coupons can also exist in more aggressive forms. That is, they are often sent to specifically targeted consumers that likely do not wish to receive the coupon in the first place. Here, some retailers will collect a consumer’s contact information and put them on list where coupons are constantly being sent. These are most commonly seen as unwanted text messages or clutter in ones email. If these coupons are legitimate and not just a fishing scheme, then they do fit within the coupon genre because, even though they are unwanted a majority of the time, they do still fit the basic definition of a coupon.

One of the less commonly known forms of the coupon is the discount code, spread through word of mouth. For example, over the radio you hear, “Type in the code, CODE12345, and receive a 30% discount on your order”. In this case, the consumer must put in effort to remember the code. By remembering the code, the consumer also more clearly remembers the business and the product, resulting in the formation of brand recognition for that consumer. According to the basic definition, a coupon is a voucher that entitles the consumer to a discount or added benefit with their purchase. Typically, vouchers and coupons are physically present and exchanged during the transaction. However, the knowledge of a promotional discount code is arguably physically present and this knowledge is exchanged for a discount or added benefit during purchase. Therefore, the discount code can be considered one of the less well-known artifacts of the coupon genre.

Another less well-known, but still commonly used, artifact of the coupon genre is the coupon gift book. This is a gift that loved ones or family members often present to each other. Here, these homemade coupons have goods or services that can be exchanged by the recipient of the gift. Services may include tasks such as “one free hug”, “one breakfast in bed”, or “50% less complaining about chores this weekend”. Coupons such as these are distinguished by the intent of both parties. The intent of the one giving the gift coupons is not to sell off excess or expiring product nor to promote brand awareness. Here, the purpose of handing out coupons such as these is to show thoughtfulness, often in lieu of a more expensive gift. The intent of the one redeeming the coupons is not to save money or collect on a store promotion, but more to show acceptance of a loved one’s gift. It is these differences of intent that may cause this artifact to loosely fit the definition of a coupon. However, these are still vouchers that entitle the redeemer to receive services, added benefits, or sometimes products.

So, what makes a coupon a coupon? So long as a given artifact fits the basic definition of a coupon, then it can be belong to the coupon genre. That is, it is a voucher that that entitles its owner to a discount on a particular product or service or added benefit with purchase. The result is that seeming different objects can all belong to the same grouping. For example, a discount code is much different than a coupon gift book in terms of their physicality and intent of distribution and use. However, they both fulfill the same basic function, giving a discount or free good or service. This is what makes the study of genre so fascinating.

Classmate 3:

A genre is a category of artistic composition, as in music or literature, characterized by similarities in form, style, or subject matter. Anything with any type of writing is a genre. A genre can be traffic signs to fiction novels. A genre set a category for some a certain type of style to be placed in a group. They all have to have something in common to placed in a group either by wording, format, or any other characteristics Checking your mail or email could be one of the scariest thing ever. Bills tend to show up in those places. One opens the email or envelope to see a number towards the bottom stating “243.45 due on July 6th”. Bills give you the information of what one is paying for; it could either be from a medical, phone, credit card, or any form of a bill. All have the purpose that you as a person owe money towards somewhere due by some certain date. There is a difference among a medical bill, phone bill, credit card, or any other bill where they are organized different. At the end of the day one just has to pay the bills. Any form that someone has purchase such as a big have of purchase to make. Bill comes in any form, but what a bill is talking about are the ones received at home. Now we say what defines a bill or what are the features that make one a bill. There are many different aspects, but all have the same purpose and that is to get their point across and get their money back. THESIS: Bills come in all different formats, but at the end the purpose has a subset total with a due date with an expectation of receiving money.

Opening that statement bill is sort of terrifying via email or paper statements, one doesn’t know what might the number might be towards the bottom. Bills vary in many ways how they received. All bills used to be mailed manueling and one would get the bill every month and then make a payment. The paper bills come in a form in an envelope with one’s address and with the name of the one responsible for that type. The bill on the outside of the envelope state where it is coming from and it states that to notify the payer. When one opens the bill one is able to see where the bill is coming from there will be the company’s name that is again to probably make sure it is coming from the same company. Then usually the statement is located towards the end where it shows all transactions that have been done. Nowadays bills come in a form of an email.

Email are upon the new generation among us. Bills now come in a form of email and one can log in to pay a bill. They called paperless for bills that come through email. It’s in order to save the environment because it having less paper. When one opens  their email it states “ your statement is ready to be view”. Then one clicks it and logs into their account and the first thing that pops up is “23.54 due by 8/19”. It’s fairly more straightforward because most companies want the payment to be fast and quick.  Since there are emails and paper bills there is no way of ignoring bills.

Different types of bills pile among people. Bills come in every way and format. A credit card bill comes in a format of a paper bill or email bill summary that then makes you log into your account.  A credit card paper bill specifically states the company name on the top and then has a section where it states purchase and even the interest charge added. Also to the right of the bill it states “statement balance of 46.54” with a payment due date by it. Bills require a overall payment with the description of what is being paid for. Also, it included the statement period and they always included the account number because it’s a way for the company to be organized to who has paid as well as who has not. Bills include credit cards as well as PG&E bills.

Bills just always keep coming whether they are electric to medical bills. PG&E bills fall under the category of being a bill first to fourth most is because they have a “billing summary” also known as in the credit card bill as account activity. Also, it has the total amount due by a certain day. When looking at a Pg&e bill one is able to see how much of from previous payments and see how they reacher that certain amount to pay for. They give you an estimate about what has mostly been paid for. Towards the bottom they give the ripped apart attachment to your check right to the mail so it is easily done. Online payments one uses their username and password login in where it states the amount and one just pays it straight through.  The main different is the format as Pg&e bills are more detailed with giving about past payments and explaining why the energy affects your billing. The gas bill then brings another topic of it being a bill for the most part.

Utilities Is always necessary for a household so the bill will always fluctuate a lot. The utilities bill is much shorter with just one paper that is included in the enveloped with the empty one inside. It’s much shorter because everybody gets charger for 3 things which are sewer, water, and service fee.The gas bill states your account number like all other bills with your password where one can do an online payment. They give details about what the service type will be and they state the charges being stated and give your a grand total with a due date. Overall, it’s a bill where gives the payer information where it is easily read and payable. Medical bills and dental bills are much more complicated and hard to be able to be seen as a bill.

Medical bills and dental bills ar such a nightmare as they may cause much stress among people. Medical bills and dental bill are both organized fairly the same way as they are bills that are caring for a person’s needs. They both state the company to the top like Tarana medical office. They both state where it says the procedure that have been done. It is done is specific and it could either be a cleaning for the teeth or a cast that was put on for the patient. This bill it to the person in charge of the bill like a guardian or if you’re old enough yourself. It gives more detail as they use what doctor gave one treatment and what and why was it done. The main difference among them from other bills is insurance is involved. In the corner you will see the insurance that one is covered by if they have one. They will see the cost of each procedure done which is usually around 100 or more and they will create a total of each produce, but the insurance cover will be right under with a subtract sign. The towards the end they will have grand total and then what is covered by insurance and then give you what the amount is due by a certain due date.

Bills are a type of genre as they show words onto a piece of paper that can be a nightmare. They send a message where one has to pay an amount or else other charges will be made. A bill has the company’s name, the name of the person responsible with it including the account number, grand total, and dude date. Anything wil such a thing by owing money is a bill. Bills are an endless way of owing money to the city or anywhere.
